A Series by Jill Holler – Part 4
And he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart…And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.” Mark 16:14-15
How often do you consider the eternal fate of those around you? Does your heart yearn for the salvation of others?
Or has your heart become indifferent toward the urgency of the gospel?
As I am writing this, I feel a wave of panic hit my heart, for I know I have not been faithful to go into all the world and proclaim the gospel–not even to my own small world around me.
I become humbled before God as I am faced with the glaring truth that I have failed to obey His call. I plead with Him to forgive me for each time I have looked upon the people of this world with a hardness of heart, indifferent to their earthly suffering or their eternal fate.
The Only Answer
Jesus has called me to have a heart like His–not a heart that is afraid or indifferent.
He wants me to see the world through His eyes and have a heart that beats for the lost–just as His does.
With a love that is beyond comprehension, Jesus Christ longs to bring us all into His saving grace, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).
Christ is the key to abundant life and eternal salvation. Will I not share this news with the world?
In Acts 3:19, the Apostle Paul reveals the key to gaining new life:
Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.
Oh how God has brought me to life through the truth of this verse! Yes, God has refreshed my soul and saved me from my own hopelessness and despair. And each and every day on this earth, Jesus Christ has blessed me with His joy and peace.
But most importantly, He has saved me from an eternity in hell where the fire never goes out (Mark 9:43), where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 13:42).
My soul is secure in Christ Jesus, and I will never experience the burning fire of hell and its eternal torment. I will never be separated from God to live in a place of isolation where not even a drop of water can be found to ease one’s suffering (Luke 16:24).
An Eye-Opening Reality
Oh that God will keep my eyes open to the reality of hell. All too often I push it aside, not wanting to consider the implications for those who do not have faith in Jesus Christ. I want to shut my eyes to the truth because it is almost too much to bear.
But this reality should shake us: Christ will one day say to some, “Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matthew 25:41).
Why does Christ warn us about the reality of hell? So that we would turn to Him for LIFE!
With an authority the world had never seen before, Jesus Christ proclaimed this bold truth when He walked upon this earth:
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
This is reality. No one can enter heaven by any other way. If a person does not have faith in Christ, they will not see heaven.
This truth is sobering and eye-opening. Yet it ignites a fire within me that urges me to press beyond my own inhibitions and speak boldly for the Lord.
Fearlessly Declare the Gospel
I pray that Ephesians 6:19 will come to life in my life and in yours:
That whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is the answer to the soul-sickness of every single person on this earth. When Jesus Christ offered his life as a sacrifice for our sins, He made a way for us to heaven. Because of His great love for us, He could do nothing less.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
As a follower of Jesus Christ, I pray that I will lay down all of my fears, self-interest, and disregard for the lives of others–and instead pick up the cross of Jesus and bring its hope to the world.
For if I do not speak, who will?
How are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? Romans 10:14
God, forgive me for each time I have looked upon this world and felt nothing in my heart and said nothing about you.
Revive my heart and let me see the world as you do.
Lord, help me to give up everything for you, so that I may gain souls into your kingdom.
Help me reach the world for you!
Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. Isaiah 45:22
For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, “I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.” Acts 13:47
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. Mark 16:16
