5 Powerful Lessons I Learned from Oswald Chambers

A Man Completely Surrendered to God When the classic devotional by Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest, was published in 1927, who could have imagined that nearly 100 years later it would still be captivating the hearts and minds of readers? Not once in this time span has it been taken out of publication. Instead it has grown in popularity among Christian believers. Indeed, generation after generation has been empowered through the God-exalting words of a humble man named Oswald Chambers, whose life goal was to give absolutely everything for God’s highest acclaim. More than anything else, the young Scottish-born pastor longed to see God high and lifted up in his generation and those to come. With a fiery, yet compassionate spirit, he urged Read More

All for Christ

Interview with Author Norma Gail This week I had the privilege of being interviewed by fellow author Norma Gail. Her questions made me reflect upon my relationship with the Lord and look deeply into the issue of giving everything to Christ. I pray God will help me to live the life He has called me to, and I am praying the same for you. How blessed we are to have our Savior by our side, leading us each step of the way. Here are a few of the questions I addressed in the interview: What new lessons is the Lord teaching you right now? God is teaching me to keep my eyes on Him and nothing else. He is teaching me to let go of Read More

Life in His Hands: The Journey

My twin sister once told me that God called her to lead Bible studies so that she would actually show up. After I laughed about that for awhile, I added, “God wanted me to write a devotional book so that I would actually start living what I’ve learned!” To me, there is something about hard, cold print that makes me feel the need to be more accountable. I guess the same concept applies to leading Bible studies, only it’s the people, not the print, that makes you feel you had better come through. God knows my sister and me pretty well, and he knows we need a good nudge once in awhile. He also knows it has taken lots of persuading to convince me that Read More

Waiting

Sometimes I wish waiting weren’t a part of God’s plan. I like to see things happen and know things are moving forward in the direction I want them to go. Waiting simply does not give me the comforting sense that I am in control and everything is going to work out just perfectly. (And I really want to know that!) Some days I wish I could just take a sneak peak at the end of God’s plan for me and see how it turns out…or at least hurry the whole process along until I get to the part that I really like.  Yes, I can convince myself quite easily that getting results (or at least being able to predict them) is what would be best for Read More

The Joy of Writing – Part 2

The ultimate joy of writing comes from meeting God on the pages of Scripture and writing in response to him. But throughout the experience of writing my devotional book, there has also been another kind of joy. This is the capital “J” kind of joy. As many of you know, I have never walked alone in this life because I’ve always had a twin by my side. Her name is Joy, and just as in life, she has walked beside me during this journey of writing A Life in His Hands. I call her my first editor and great encourager. Every writer needs someone like this–someone she can share every bit of her writing with, someone who can offer the words of encouragement and criticism Read More
