But I trust in you, LORD; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in your hands. Psalm 31:14-15
To me, there is no greater comfort than knowing that the course of my life is resting in the strong hands of my God. I desperately need to know that someone far greater than me is holding on to my fragile life, directing it with a love and sovereignty that I cannot even comprehend.
Without him, I would wander without purpose, alone in my struggles and sorrows, feeling empty and incomplete. Yet the God of the universe chose to take me into his own hands and carry every part of me–burdens and all. No insecurity, sadness, or hardship is too heavy for him to carry. In reality, he asks us to give everything over to him, for his hands are steady and strong.
Strong and true. That is my God. When I open up the Scriptures, that is what I see written all across the pages. Goodness. Faithfulness. Love. Those are the themes of his timeless story, and they go beyond the printed words and come alive in my heart. How grateful I am that his words are not just ink on a page, but instead are living, true, and full of power!
Almost daily, I say these words to the Lord: “But I trust in you!” (Psalm 31:14). Usually the “but” is preceded by the frustration of some circumstance I can’t quite understand, or a “why” that I just can’t figure out. But I know that in all things, he holds my life in his hands, and I can trust him with every part of it. He is the most faithful being ever to grace heaven or earth. And he is my God.
The best kind of life is a Life in His Hands.
How eager I am to share with you the wonders of a life lived through him! Look for the release of my devotional book, Life in His Hands: A Call to Godly Surrender and Purposeful Living, on September 30 through Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas.
