The Simplistic Beauty of God’s Great Love

How Do I Love Jesus? One night, my young daughter looked up at me with tears in her eyes and told me with great anguish, “I don’t know how to love Jesus. Even though I try and try, I just don’t think it is enough!” As I looked at her sweet little face, cheeks flushed red and eyes filled with sadness, my heart ached for her. I was taken back in time to my own childhood, as I recalled my own feelings of not understanding God’s great love for me. In that moment, I was back my blue flowered bedroom in the upstairs of my home, tucked under my fluffy white comforter, quietly thinking about Jesus. As moonlight poured in through the windows, the silence Read More

Set Your Mind on a Course of Victory for Christ

A Small Victory Perhaps by now you’ve heard of my victory. My unbelievable victory! I ran up a hill.  That’s right. All the way up a hill! Yes, God set my feet in motion that day and showed me I could do things that are hard. I was sweating and panting…and praising God that he never gives up on me. Indeed, when I set my sights on Jesus, he makes me want to start running and never back down. I may be in a heap when I cross the finish line. But I will know I have run the race with purpose. I will know that nothing else in this life could have brought me greater joy than simply running the race with Him. People Pleasing Read More

The Artist in You: Expressing Faith in Beautiful, Creative Ways

“He is the greatest artist, and we are his masterpieces.” –Johan Umana, Visual Arts Pastor, Calvary Church   You are God’s Masterpiece Inside of each of us is a beauty that God wants to display to the world. We are God’s masterpiece. And we have been shaped by his own hands to become a radiant light of hope to the world. As Scripture states, we have been fearfully and wonderfully made. His works are wonderful, I know that full well (Psalm 139:14)! But how often do we actually live as if these words are true? In our hearts, do we truly believe that God did something remarkable when he created us? That he has set a special radiance inside of us that illustrates his Read More

Climbing the Hill

Climbing the Hill I ran up a hill today. And I didn’t even stop at the top. No, I just kept on running. That’s simply not like me. I do enjoy a nice walk in the morning. But I’m not a huge fan of running up hills while my heart pounds wildly and sweat rolls down my back. That’s just not my favorite thing in life. So as far as I can tell, it must have been the hand of God that started pushing me up that hill because I had no idea my legs were going to kick it into high gear. With an energy I didn’t know I had, I just took off running. After a few seconds of utter shock, I thought to Read More

Is Christ Knocking On The Door Of Your Heart?

Is Christ Knocking on the Door of your Heart?  Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. Revelation 3:20   Is God knocking at the door of your heart, asking you to let him fully in? How long has he been knocking? For weeks, months, even years? Many of us hear him tap-tapping on our hearts, calling us to a life of complete surrender, yet we never fully open the door. We crack the door open, put one eye up to the opening, and peer cautiously toward the Savior of our life. In the depth of our souls, we long to fling Read More
